RYA Onboard

RYA OnBoard Club Members visiting Hollingworth Lake.

What will I be doing? You will practice and develop the skills you have learned so far, try different boats and most of all have fun! Instructors will be there to enable progress and organise activities. This year we will also be including modular training towards further RYA qualifications.

Green Withens has been awarded OnBoard status by the Royal Yachting Association.

Here are the aims:

On BoardRun by sailing’s National Governing Body, the RYA, OnBoard is a highly successful industry supported grass roots programme which seeks to make sailing easier to get into for young people. Over a ten year period the programme aims to introduce a minimum of 500,000 children to sailing in the UK, converting over 10% of them into regular participants. So far it’s nicely on track.

What: As well as aiming to be a fun sailing session to improve your skills, OnBoard includes working towards a variety of ongoing RYA qualifications and Scout badges, including higher levels of the RYA Sailing Schemes and Scout Sailor badge, RYA Start Racing, Scout Time on the Water badge, RYA Assistant Instructor and much more. The sessions can also be used for your Physical and Skills DofE sections.

Where: At the West Yorkshire County Scouts Green Withens Watersports Centre.

When: The club will run every Saturday from 6th April to the 26th October. We start at 11.00am and finish at 4.30pm.

Who: You must have completed the Scout Sailor badge Stage Two or be able to sail to a similar standard. You must also be able to swim 50 metres and be confident in the water.

Cost: Only £8 per session (8 sessions are free of charge if you have completed a 4 day sailing course this summer) to include use of a wetsuit and buoyancy aid. You will pay each time you come, either by:

  • OSM Payment
  • BACS.
